September brings a closing remembrance
Of supermen, superstars, super-rain

Now though it looks like an algae lawn.....

Prepping a box for transport

I think I have a few things to learn about distribution, but using expanding foam in a box to protect any contents from rough handling seems like a good idea, though with my lack of finesse this 1 box was a 5 euro cans worth..
Experience taught me - the polyfoam stays sticky for a bit so you think 'my god, what have I done?, but then it dries out and you think 'oh, ok - not so bad' and ' could have spread it thinner and more evenly actually...'

Good Value

It's a 34 minute journey from Zaventem to Antwerp, and the ticket price is 8€.

Putting that in perspective, it's 1.5 times the distance of London Paddington to Heathrow, at 1/3 of the cost comparing cheapest tickets.. Oh yeah...

Here we go, here we go....

A maze ing. Must be England playing...
Catch 10 mins of game to see Lescott score, then in the 3 minutes it takes to walk to the Departure Gate for Brussels there's and equaliser and then half time...

With a news blackout from here until disembarkation, actually it's a new way of being entertained with the same old script, teased and frustrated by the boys from Blightey  :-D

Direct Train Brussels Airport to Antwerp Begins 10th June

This was a much awaited service, and now it begins: antwerp now has a direct train link from Brussels International Airport (Zaventem).

On first inspection it looks a thrill, but look again and it's handy for some but not all:
Trains run once per hour and at a different time in the weekend to during the week, so at each end you have around quarter to the hour departure, and about 5-10 past the hour at weekend: here's. Couple of extracts:

For those who arrive just too late there remains the coach service (I believe) which departs on the hour each way, and stops at Crowne Plaza in South Antwerp, so that might still be the best option for some

A little Fun

Skoda take themselves pretty seriously now, and rightly so, by just over a decade ago they made a little Fun and though not well known, this version of the Felicia is still unique and special...

Blimey Guv'nor, its the Great London Skyline

Maybe I am being rude, but the mish mash of spikes and spokes as I look out across the London skyline makes me think of the dust mounds of Little Dorritt....

2 new sites "The Shard" - yet another prestige building centre left, and the Olympic Stadium, far left...
Is that The Eye, The Umbrella, or the Bike Frame?
And somehow the stadium looks like a debtors prison.....

They got me...

and I thought I was sick of these ads...

Best deal was Marks & Spencers actually!!
Seriously, now the supermarkets are doing insurance, is this good or bad?

Seriously though, are we going to get a sensible review of the insurance companies unbridled power over the motorist?

RAC report of govt review of car insurance
Manchester's key 103 radio report
Guardian's report

I truly hope so - haven't you noticed over the years how searches for insurance have started to include more and more 'granular' details for their information - e.g.

  • annual mileage has been broken into segments by the thousand
  • no claims used to be up to 5, now its by year from 1 to 9, 15, more depending on the insurance company - how can you provide evidence for over so many years when the insurance companies didn't record that many years pin the past?
  • the excess is no broken into voluntary, compulsory, for windscreen, some other things I didn't catch
  • phone quotes force you to listen to all the extras, even when you specifically say no extras.
And the cost now.... a 13 year old 2.0litre car with alarm and immobiliser, with a driver who had a license for over 20 years, no claims, no points, over £1100....?!?

So where is the money coming from for so many new drivers buying expensive cars round where I live?

I mean, they must be new...

Back to basics

Train from Manchester airport to Lime St Liverpool reminds me of the really basic transit with frame seats bolted into the floor. Guess I won't be charging my laptop then...

What doesn't work today - 2012-01-30

So far:
2 conveyor walkways from the train...
the lift from the train station...
A lift down to terminal 3...

An escalator up to t3 departures

Poor old Peel Holdings, they must really be feeling the pinch...
