Direct Train Brussels Airport to Antwerp Begins 10th June

This was a much awaited service, and now it begins: antwerp now has a direct train link from Brussels International Airport (Zaventem).

On first inspection it looks a thrill, but look again and it's handy for some but not all:
Trains run once per hour and at a different time in the weekend to during the week, so at each end you have around quarter to the hour departure, and about 5-10 past the hour at weekend: here's. Couple of extracts:










For those who arrive just too late there remains the coach service (I believe) which departs on the hour each way, and stops at Crowne Plaza in South Antwerp, so that might still be the best option for some

Its on until July 01, and its well worth the visit. At the Magritte Museum, with the shop for Kubrick-abilia at the Gresham next door.

Blimey Guv'nor, its the Great London Skyline

Maybe I am being rude, but the mish mash of spikes and spokes as I look out across the London skyline makes me think of the dust mounds of Little Dorritt....





2 new sites "The Shard" - yet another prestige building centre left, and the Olympic Stadium, far left...
Is that The Eye, The Umbrella, or the Bike Frame?
And somehow the stadium looks like a debtors prison.....

Seriously, now the supermarkets are doing insurance, is this good or bad?

Seriously though, are we going to get a sensible review of the insurance companies unbridled power over the motorist?

I truly hope so - haven't you noticed over the years how searches for insurance have started to include more and more 'granular' details for their information - e.g.

• annual mileage has been broken into segments by the thousand
• no claims used to be up to 5, now its by year from 1 to 9, 15, more depending on the insurance company - how can you provide evidence for over so many years when the insurance companies didn't record that many years pin the past? 
• the excess is no broken into voluntary, compulsory, for windscreen, some other things I didn't catch
• phone quotes force you to listen to all the extras, even when you specifically say no extras.

And the cost now.... a 13 year old 2.0litre car with alarm and immobiliser, with a driver who had a license for over 20 years, no claims, no points, over £1100....?!?

So where is the money coming from for so many new drivers buying expensive cars round where I live?

I mean, they must be new...

Back to basics

Train from Manchester airport to Lime St Liverpool reminds me of the really basic transit with frame seats bolted into the floor. Guess I won't be charging my laptop then...

JOBSWORTH

OK - maybe I am a little late for some in saying this, but its time I started the Jobsworth chronicles, for all those crappy things about Apple that make me know its time other companies did something halfway to scratch.

We need a Big Bad Apple blog, not because I think they are, but because we should be aware of the alternatives!  Isn't this why we shunned Microsoft?

BBC Ageist? You must be Working my Lunch

Well well well, Moira My Stuarts!! Have the BBC done it again?

They just announced they are axing Working Lunch, the link for which I Googled and couldn't find as a BBC News link (so much for balanced), which they also concede has a core audience of retired folks, currently at around 300,000.

Well, I also watch Working Lunch, and I have to admit not as much as I should BUT, frankly it is an interesting and well constructed program, which features articles in an accessible and concise way that I don't see anywhere else, and has a format that welcomes its viewers into the parlour.

So why should we have to watch a channel of predominantly journalistic content and all its current day banality and patronising presentation, when what we really want is an information program away from the journo-packaged conveyor belt that presents itself as an interest program, WORKING LUNCH!

Is this yet again the ongoing (denied) BBC policy of trimming off the quartiles to bland in, sorry, blend in the programming to suit a notional interquartile age and interest range?

And what about the unemployed entrepreneur, or the lunchtime tv at work?
